Dear Ones,

A poem for you …

“GOD’s GARDEN”
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
17 March 2018

I remember those times
when I lived at the edge
of the canyon

And saw
the wild dogs

coursing
like dun-colored
streams

through the depths
of the canyon
floors

of an evening

I remember
step
by careful
step

threading my way
down the steep
slopes

There I saw
in the fading

green
of mild
spring days

cucumbers
tomatoes
watermelons

strike up
from straggly
vines

strewn forth
by garden seeds
washed

down … down …
into the
canyon

I remember
thinking
God’s garden is here!

None but God
to sow these seeds

None but God
to reap these fruits

Who
draws
the pattern
of the days?

Who conducts
the symphony
of winter rains
and summer
thirst?

Who guides
the padded feet

that strike their will
both deep and sure

into

the unsuspecting
heart
of this lost

city?
