. . .April 2004
Scotch tape doesn’t last, you know –
. . . not down through the decades.
. . . There’s no using it for tax returns,
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . that’s for sure.
These boisterous years roll by
. . . like a wide, wet river –
. . . silent and dark by night,
. . . a little too loud by day, and
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . endlessly entrancing.
Scotch tape can’t staunch that flow
. . . or mend the pain
. . . of years yet unfulfilled
. . . and love’s lost hours
.
Until, at last,
. . . our hearts
. . . turn away from the tyrant tide –
. . . once more to glimpse
. . . . . . that fiery orb
. . . . . . . . . . . . . … . . . . . bless the far clouds
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . …. . …. with a sweet goodbye.
