STONEGATE I
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
16 April 2017

Before Time was, I am

When all that is
. . . was but a whisper on the wind
. . . I was that wind.

And finer still,
. . . the wind behind the wind
. . . the hour before the day
. . . . . . underscores sky
. . . . . . with a horizon

The breath within the breath
. . . The sigh within dawn’s
. . . eye-bright, healing light
. . . that tumbles down upon
. . . the gate within this stone

This place of dread, dark fire
This mountain called desire
. . . pry that stone gate
. . . to my remembered Star
