WARRIOR SONG
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
while riding back to LA from Sedona
on the Sierra Club bus with my friends
November 2010

I am this bus and all the people in it.

I am this heart and all the love that’s in it.

I am that ancient warrior
walking a snow blown land
checking my traps for the fat rabbit
whose flesh will heal my mother’s mother,
and whose soft fur will warm my newborn child.

Deep beneath the earth I feel
rivers of fire that are Earth’s flowing blood
and the great fiery orb that is the earth’s heart, beating.

And far above my own life’s trace,
the brilliant stars descry
their joyful jubilee upon
the midnight sky.
