Dear Ones,
Here is a short story I wrote over a year ago …
TEETH 2
A Short Story by Alice B. Clagett
Written on 5 August 2018
Early morning in LA. Would I ever love to be in Hawaii, walking the early morning beach — sunhat and flowered muumuu, bare feet scuffing the sand, ears full of the roaring surf, foam flecking spent waves as they lap the sand.
I remember Maui. Woke up at a beachside resort in the wee morning hours. Made my own coffee and sipped it outdoors near the “I Wanafoolaround” jacuzzi, which bubbled dreamily.
A warm, wet wind snapped the flagpole flags: US, Canada, and Hawaii.
Then mynah birds awoke. Added sweet song to palm leaf chatter.
The coffee cup was empty then.
Wild roosters in the nearby woods woke their hens with cruel cries.
The rats in the iceplant, off in the fields, went back to their dens. Mongeese still crept through the undergrowth, looking for one more tasty treat before sunrise.
. . . . .
