Dear Ones,

SPONTANEOUS MUDRAS

In the past I have written a little about spontaneous mudras; the first two paragraphs below are excerpted from a prior blog …

“Spontaneous mudras or kriyas … that is, spontaneous movements of the fingers or body … although well understood in Eastern religions, are little understood in the West. Among Indian saints who evidenced spontaneous mudras or kriyas, one of the best known and most deeply loved was Anadamay Ma. For more about her, see …

“It is likely that Christ also used spontaneous mudras or kriyas in blessing the crowds of people that gathered around him, as there are many portraits of him using mudras.” [for instance, the well-known hand mudra with index finger and middle finger of his right hand raised in blessing] –from Link: “Baptismal Sylph,” a story by Alice B. HOW HEALING LIGHT IS CHANNELED BY MUDRAS

A picture, my mom used to say, is worth a thousand words. It can convey subtleties of meaning, nuances of feeling, that words cannot. As there is so little lore regarding spontaneous mudras in the Western world, I felt it very fortunate in unexpectedly making this photograph of changes in the Light with hand position …

BODY MUDRAS: PHYSICAL MOVEMENT AS A HEALING GESTURE

The word mudra is often used for hand gestures, but in my work the meaning is extended to mean gestures of the physical form, that affect the human energy field, or that of another person who is to be healed, or that of Earth, or that of our Solar System, and so forth. That is to say, in my work, a mudra is a healing gesture, for the healing of whatever being may be present in the Awareness of the healer at the time when the mudra takes place.

Kriyas

In traditional yogic texts, what I think of as body mudras are often called kriyas. In some yogic traditions, kriyas are mainly breathing techniques. In others they may be static body poses, or body movements. Or they may have to do with speaking sacred sounds. In kundalini yoga, which was the tradition I learned in my middle years, kriyas often involve all three: breath, static pose or movement, and sacred sound.

In recent years, I have channeled various mudras (or kriyas), which may be found in the blog category: Mudras and kriyas by Alice
