OCTOBER: A POEM IN THREE PARTS
by Alice B. Clagett
October 2001
The Day Slips by …
The day slips by,
My own dear heart
. . . locked in thy warm embrace,
This mortal frame
. . . unbelievably
. . . caught fraught with Thy infinity
Packless, my Weary Back
Packless, my weary back
. . . molded to the soft-sloped, slate ribs
. . . . . . of this staid mountain,
I await the sun.
Heavy on My Heart
These grey clouds
. . . lie heavy on my heart
Concealing as they do
. . . that which I most would see.
Whither to go, and what to find?
Worlds upon worlds,
. . . age after age,
. . . that vast blue sky
. . . twinkles within me.
