Dear Ones,

Here is a new poem for you, about an event that … I am pleased to convey … did not take place in the year 2016, in Red Rock Canyon State Park, Santa Clarita, California, fairly close to where I live …

CANNIBAL SONG: THE 29-FLAVOR BARBECUE … aka OGREISH STEW
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
Soundtrack and Words
2 May 2019

Where do you put a cannibal kid?
Into a pot and under a lid?

Is it the ego, or maybe the id?
What could be broke in the cannibal kid?

How do you figure a cannibal’s bile
Relates to the things you consider worthwhile?

What do you say to the cannibal’s guile
When the charming man says, with a toothsome smile,

“Will you drop by my place for a while?
“I make a mean meatloaf. I’ll do it in style!”

What, oh what will that ogre make you?
People tartare. or cannibal stew
Or 29-flavor barbecue?

Shall we eschew, or hie ourselves nigh
That camo cook with a cloaked banzai?

Consider what might be required of the guest
And just say no! to that wry guy’s jest.

Anthropophagy Is definitely
Not this poetess’ cup of tea!

School . a poem by Alice B. Clagett

  • SCHOOL, a Poem by Alice B. Clagett, Soundtrack and Words

Dear Ones,

Here is a new poem by me. I wrote it during a creative writing class. I remembered a crawdad burrow on the side of a little stream down by the end of our driveway in the home where I grew up. My first thought, just before I wrote the poem, was this: What is an idea compared to a crawdad burrow by a slow-moving brook?

SCHOOL
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
Soundtrack and Words
2 July 2018

What bookish notion schools a bairn
rapt, like a crayfish by a languid bourne?

What did that crawdad ever learn,
that it knew not on finding form?

How, in fact, shall I take in
all the beings that I am?

How frisk the veil of by and by
where tens on tens of folks be I ?

— one just borning and the next full grown
— one soft cocooning, in carnation’s womb
—
one swift careening through an astral gloom
turning, hand outstretched, to angelic lumen

Now regal male decked rough, reared up full wild
Now just past childhood mother cradling her own child

Guerrero here, there carpenter or nun
Pagan, Christian, wondering One
Trying, falling, free, then bound
yearning, spurning, missing, found!

How may we reckon age or race or wealth?
How learn the weight of wisdom of our Self?

How find a mooring in this place, that time
when placeless timeless Hearts toward God incline?

He is the flower of the Soul
His the enthralling, star-spanned role
His is the basket that all lives enspline
He is the teacher, He the rhyme

Dear Ones,

This poem is fictional in all regards, including, but not limited to characters, events and figures of speech. The place name is also fictional, and the names of people are added for poetic effect, not having to do with anything about their fictional lives …

“THE CLINK OF A REPTILE’S TOES”
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
Soundtrack and Words
11 February 2018

There was a fellow in Desperadoville
Who loved to kill for a sexual thrill

A wise guy stopped by who said, “My gosh …
You make your kills with swashbuckling panache!

“I have one request … ‘Cause
These kills make such messes …
Once monthly, finesse this  …

“Then say goodbye
To the townspeople’s sighs,
To their nightmares and cries …
Go and give it a try!”

So he tried this advice,
And at first it seemed nice

But the beat of his heart
Did a Humphrey Bogart
When he practiced that art

And, quick as Jack Robinson,
He ditched that lesson

Day after day, began
Once more rampagin’

One night, drinking liquor,
This hard hitter figured:
“The trouble’s your ticker!

“It’s too fast a racer
I’ll put a pacemaker
Inside it. Then killin’
Won’t be so thrillin’

“Cause when I think ‘hatchets’
My heart just won’t ratchet
Up, due to this gadget.”

So he found a doctor
To make up an order
To purchase the gizmo
To KO his MO

A life of crime
Don’t stop on a dime
It worked for a time

Then the day arrived
When he contrived

A vast panorama …
A homicide drama …

That went off as expected
For he fled, undetected
And savored the deed with espresso

This is far from the norm
He surmised, all forlorn …
My heart didn’t vet the crescendo

He moped for a while
Though it wasn’t his style …

“I’ll have to make hay
In a cold-blooded way,”
He declared: “Easy come, easy go!”

BLESSINGS OF THE NOONTIME SUN
A Vision by Alice B. Clagett
10 March 2016

Blessings of the noontime sun
To the tribes of earthbound ones.

Bless, thou legions of the light,
Bless the armies of the night.

Blessings of love,
Blessings of light,
Blessings of joy to the earthbound ones.

Greetings of hearts open wide
To those whose great delight is pride.

Greetings of deepest joy
To those of skillful ploy.

Oh my dearest sons of man,
Let us greet that other band
with hope, and faith, and love of God …
Tho their feet be oddly shod.

Blessings of the noontime sun
To the tribes of earthbound ones.

Greetings to Michael of the Earth,
Remembering his noble birth,
Soon soon free to find his place
Among that Archangelic race.

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars

ARE YOU GOD ALMIGHTY?
A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
7 November 2014

Are you God Almighty?
I’m pleased to shake your hand

I’ve got a pile of troubles, dude
I know you’ll understand

One day sun is shining, next day full of gloom
One day I’m ascending, next day ‘meet your doom!’

So while I climb that ladder to
Walhalla in the sky

I’m happy to pay homage to
Great umbrage by my side

I might be wonderin’ one day
If you are in the wings

Then tumblin’ mumblin’ headlong feel
That song my own heart sings

What joy, what titivation can
One little organ bring!

What vastly great elation when
My own spirit’s king

So, my dear God Almighty
I shake your potent hand

Acknowledgin’ that ‘wow! get real!’
Is where my true soul stands

. . . . .

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars

(1) In a way, the God the Father mental filter is also characteristic of our relationship to small groups in general … our community or ‘tribe’, our church, our nation, our culture, our particular planet Earth. They put an energetic ‘cap’ on our hearts. As we step out beyond these many ‘caps’ or roles, we allow ourselves to come into our own Remembering. Our own relationship to the All.

SUMMARY OF THE VIDEO

Ode to a Scarlet Varlet
A story by Alice B. Clagett
Soundtrack and Words
24 February 2018

You know, some people say that, when a criminal pays,
by going to jail, and then gets out again,
that they’ve paid their debt to society,
and so they deserve a second chance, right?

And so, but …
There are certain criminals that don’t want a second chance!
So I’ve composed this ode in honor of those sorts of criminals.
And it goes like this:

I have paid my debt to society
and I pay it again each week
Die, Sucker, Die!

And a makeover artist says:
If they shine their shoes, and buff up their lats
Nobody will know about their past!

>And those guys say:
Die, Haberdasher, Die!

>And the ladies say:
Whoo-eee! It’s a lot of fun
Fooling around with the reformed ones!

And those guys say:
Die, Pollyanna, die!

And humanitarians say:
Oh, these guys had such rough childhoods
Maybe we can help them with their livelihood

And those guys say:
Die, Goody Two-Shoes, die!

So, every Friday or Saturday night
They give the citizens quite a fright …

You will pay for the miserable way
You’ve treated us! It’s Judgement Day|
Die, Citizen, Die!

Well, I have to say,
I’m just put out by the situation
I’m daunted …
I’m just not wantin’
this reptilian lingo
to linger
any longer

You already know that story!
But what I hear, on a Friday night, Is
Die, Citizen, Die!

THE OUTLAW

My gut,
he would tout,
Is loaded
wit’ lead

That I can’t
be without

Why not?
They’d blurt out

And then
he would shout:

I’d rather be blud-
geoned than
take out that slug
and then wince
to the pinch
of a lynch mob’s
cinch
